What is melasma?
Melasma is dark patches that commonly appears on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip and is prominent in women during childbearing years.
This pigmentation is usually a genetic predisposition and can be triggered by sun exposure, hormones (pregnancy and hormone therapy), and even heat worsens melasma.

What does the treatment feel like?
Most patients find the procedure tolerable and require no numbing cream or anesthesia. The use of a forced air cooling system is recommended. Patients often compare the laser pulse to a snap of a thin rubber band however everybody is different and it can depend on the level of treatment needed.
How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the severity of your melasma, a course of treatments is typically recommended to reduce it by 60-90%. Using the correct home care products and sun protection will assist in keeping it reduce as there is no cure just yet to stop it from returning. Combining this with other treatments for maintenance is required to continue to maintain results.
What after care is required?
Keeping your skin clean and avoiding anything that can cause irritation is important.
Avoiding sun exposure and excessive heat is recommended as it can trigger your melasma. Wearing and SPF 50+ broad spectrum as well as wearing a hat is essential to maintaining your results and preventing it from further occurrence.
