How does it treat hyperpigmentation?
PicoSure® FOCUS™ uses short-pulsed technology with one trillionth of a second energy, multiple wavelengths and pulse control! It focuses only on the brown pigmented areas like a similar process to tattoo removal called “photoacoustic”.
This incredible technology activates and regenerates the cells proteins producing collagen and elastin while destroying unwanted pigmentation. Using pressure instead of heat, PicoSure® FOCUS™ targets only the pigmented cells and destroys them. without damaging any surrounding tissues.

What causes unwanted pigment?
Melanin gives us our skin colour. Pigmented lesions including sunspots, age spots, and brown patches, are dark in color because the melanin is concentrated in one area of the skin. Most pigmented lesions come from sun exposure while some patients are born with them. Hormonal changes can also induce pigment changes in the skin.
What types of pigmented lesions can PicoSure® Laser remove?
This picosecond laser can remove a variety of benign unwanted pigmentation. Age spots, freckles, and brown patches can all be removed with PicoSure. Epidermal as well as dermal pigment can be treated very effectively. The alexandrite picosecond laser is very effective for treatments of Nevus of Ota with a lower number of sessions needed.
How many treatment sessions will it take?
A series of treatments is usually recommended. Each patient is unique and will be evaluated prior to treatment.
What does the treatment feel like?
Most patients find the procedure tolerable and require no numbing cream or anesthesia. The use of a forced air cooling system is recommended. Patients often compare the laser pulse to a snap of a thin rubber band however everybody is different and it can depend on the level of treatment needed.
What type of post treatment care is necessary?
It is important to keep the area clean and to avoid any irritation. Wearing a Broad Spectrum 30+ or higher SPF and well as a hat is essential to ensuring you care for your skin after.
